Benefits of Cosmetic Surgery vs. Non-invasive Procedures
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the top professional society for cosmetic and plastic surgeons, the top five most popular cosmetic surgeries performed by its members for 2017 were non-invasive or minimally invasive, procedures. This has been an ongoing tend for several years, and Dr. Mark Deuber has seen this within his own practice.
Despite this, Dr. Deuber believes that cosmetic surgical procedures can offer some distinct advantages over non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures, particularly if they are intended to correct for the same type of issue.
What are some of these surgical procedures, and what benefits might they have over non-invasive or minimally invasive ones? You might be surprised at some of the ways in which cosmetic surgery might be a better option to meet your needs to improve your features.
Cosmetic Surgery Lasts Longer
While it is true that non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures can provide you with some improvement in your features, your results will only last for a certain amount of time before you must undergo the procedure again. In comparison, a surgical procedure to correct the same issue will provide you with longer lasting results.
For example, Botox injections to reduce the appearance of frown lines on your face usually will only last for three to six months. In comparison, results from a brow lift cosmetic surgical procedure will last for years.
Cosmetic Surgery Pays for Itself over Time
Many of Dr. Deuber’s patients opt for non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures, rather than surgical ones, based on cost. In fact, cost may well be a big factor in the overall popularity of non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures.
However, if you factor in cost over time, surgical procedures may actually end up being more cost-effective. As noted above, cosmetic surgery provides longer lasting results, which means that you would only incur a one-time cost for the surgery. By comparison, a non-invasive or minimally invasive procedure would very well incur several payments for each time that you came to see Dr. Deuber when the results from your previous procedure had worn off.
Again, using our Botox versus brow lift example, while the initial cost for Botox injections is considerably less than for a brow lift surgery, you may need to go back for additional Botox injections. If you factor in the cost for each of those compared to the cost for one surgery, the latter may actually turn out to be a better financial deal.
Cosmetic Surgery Provides More Dramatic Results
A non-invasive or minimally invasive procedure can provide results that show improvement, yet are subtle enough so that it may not be obvious that you have undergone a cosmetic procedure. On the other hand, if you are looking for dramatic improvements, such as to offset the effects of aging, a cosmetic surgical procedure would definitely be the better option. Dr. Deuber has found that many of his older patients are opting for cosmetic surgery to improve their facial appearance, rather than less invasive procedures.
Dr. Deuber believes that each patient is unique in terms of the goals from a cosmetic procedure. However, in some cases, patients may find that cosmetic surgery can actually have certain over advantages over less-invasive procedures.
