Breast Augmentation Incision Techniques
If you want to enhance your curves and contours, you should consider getting breast implants. Breast augmentation surgery using implants can have numerous cosmetic benefits, and can enhance your curves and contours in dramatic ways.
Dr. Mark A. Deuber can perform breast augmentation in different ways. This goes beyond implant size and shape options. There are actually different incision methods and sites to consider when planning the procedure, and that can affect the type of implants a patient receives. The team at our Dallas, TX cosmetic surgery center would like to go over some of the most common surgical techniques and incision locations used to place breast implants.
Inframammary Incision Technique
The inframammary incision technique involves an incision made along the natural crease on the underside of the breast. Both silicone and saline breast implants can be placed using this incision technique.
The primary advantage of this type of breast implant incision is that surgeons have greater control over implant position and placement. The incision is nicely hidden beneath the breast, making it generally discreet and easy to conceal with most bras, swimwear, and tops.
Periareolar Incision Technique
The periareolar incision technique involves an incision made around the perimeter of the areola. Through this incision, both silicone and saline implants can be placed.
This type of incision is generally well hidden since the scar blends in with the pigment around the areola and will fade with time. This surgical method is also a good option for patients undergoing a slight breast lift in addition to an augmentation.
Transaxillary Incision Technique
The transaxillary incision technique involves an incision made in the armpit. The implant is inserted and maneuvered into place. Only saline breast implants can be placed using this incision method.
While patients can only get saline breast implants through this procedure, the primary advantage is that incisions are well-hidden from view. No incisions are necessary on or around the breasts, which means you will not have to be self-conscious at all about scarring.
Transumbilical Incision Technique
Another hidden scar surgical method, the transumbilical incision technique involves an incision made in the patient’s belly button. Only saline breast implants can be maneuvered into position though this surgical method.
As with the transaxillary method, this surgical approach is great because there are no scars on or around the breasts themselves. This is the most well-hidden surgical method since few people closely examine the belly button area, even when your midriff is exposed.
