In fact, liposuction procedures have remained the second most often requested cosmetic procedure after breast augmentation for both 2015 and 2016, according to member survey data collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (the largest professional organization for plastic surgeons). For many years, the only two breast implant options available were either saline or silicone gel. Each type of implant has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending upon individual breast augmentation patient needs and physician preferences. However, on Feb. 20, 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which regulates all medical devices and implants sold in the United States, granted approval for a new type of implant to be marketed.
