Most women who are pregnant can expect to have some level of lower back pain, due to how the extra weight of the growing baby will change posture and shift the spine out of alignment. However, this back pain may not go away once they have delivered their baby. Each year, the ASPS sends out a questionnaire to its members to gather data on current trends in the field of cosmetic and plastic surgery, including which procedures are becoming more popular. In fact, liposuction procedures have remained the second most often requested cosmetic procedure after breast augmentation for both 2015 and 2016, according to member survey data collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (the largest professional organization for plastic surgeons). A total of more than 235,000 liposuction procedures were performed by ASPS member surgeons in 2016, which was up by 6 percent from more than 225,000 such procedures in 2015. (more…)

For many years, the only two breast implant options available were either saline or silicone gel. Each type of implant has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending upon individual breast augmentation patient needs and physician preferences. However, on Feb. 20, 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which regulates all medical devices and implants sold in the United States, granted approval for a new type of implant to be marketed. The Natrelle 410, also known as the “Gummy Bear” implant because of its resemblance to the feel of the popular chewy candy, is made of a special cohesive silicone gel. (more…)
