Forehead Lift vs. Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Procedures
One of the major advances in facial plastic surgery is the ability to target only certain parts of the face. For example, a patient who mainly concerned with the appearance of the forehead may be a good candidate for a forehead lift procedure.
This procedure targets the upper third of the face to smooth out the skin. However, some patients desire a less invasive solution.
Many patients can benefit from Botox injections to help relax the muscles. This quick treatment offers an improvement in facial wrinkles for three to four months.
Dr. Mark Deuber can recommend the best treatment for you during a consultation. Read on to learn more about forehead lift surgery vs. minimally invasive treatments.
Sagging Skin along the Forehead
When people refer to “worry lines”, they are typically referring to the deep horizontal lines on the forehead. What causes these wrinkles?
The body naturally produces a protein called collagen, which forms in fibers to fill out and firm up the skin over the skeletal framework.
As we age, these fibers break down, and collagen is lost from the skin. This process can be accelerated from smoking or excessive sun exposure.
As collagen is lost, the skin on the forehead will droop due to the decrease in volume to the skin. This can eventually result in those worry lines.
Frown Lines between the Brows
The furrows between the brows that come from frowning are different from worry lines, in that they are vertical, rather than horizontal. Furthermore, they do not form as a result of collagen loss, so much as from facial muscles that have tightened up over time and not fully relaxed.
These wrinkles form as a result of repetitive motion, such as frowning and squinting at computer screens and smart phones. Botox injections address this issue by causing those muscles between the eyebrows to relax, lessening the appearance of frown lines.
Forehead Lift and Botox Injection Procedures
The basic procedure for a forehead lift is similar to that used for a full facelift, although it is only targeting the upper third of the face. Dr. Deuber will make an incision just behind the hairline.
This will allow him to lift up the skin and underlying tissue, pull it tighter to remove sagging skin, drape it back over the forehead, and finally suture everything back into place.
Botox is injected directly into the muscles between the brows. This procedure can generally be done right in Dr. Deuber’s office in an hour or less.
In most cases, Botox treatment will last anywhere from three to four months, after which Dr. Deuber can perform another round of injections.
Addressing the forehead with a lift procedure can dramatically improve the overall features. However, if you are not ready for surgery, Botox injections can also address frown lines. To find out which option is right for you, contact our practice today.
