How Regular Yoga and the Sugar Cleanse Can Improve Your Health

In one the latest videos from Mark and Cary Deuber, the duo discuss their experiences with yoga and the one-month sugar cleanse. Here’s a rundown of some topics the couple discussed.

The Health Benefits of Yoga

More and more people have been practicing yoga in the last few years. Given the numerous health benefits, it’s not surprising how much yoga has caught on. These benefits include:

  • Better cardio heath

Practice Makes Perfect (and Makes You Feel Better)

Dr. Deuber has been practicing yoga himself for an entire year now. He can personally attest to the health benefits he’s experienced.

“I don’t have neck pain anymore,” he said. “I don’t have back pain anymore. I feel so much better.”

This is consistent with what many people experience when they practice yoga regularly. Strength and flexibility improve, as do general feelings of well being. While it can be challenging at first, regular yoga eventually feels wonderful.

“It’s like you’re having a massage,” Dr. Deuber said.

What Is the Sugar Cleanse?

Mark and Cary’s conversation eventually turned to the sugar cleanse. The sugar cleanse is a month-long detox diet that helps people reduce their dependency on sugar. Dr. Deuber mentioned hearing about the sugar detox diet through an article on CNN’s website.

What the Sugar Cleanse Involves

In the first three days of the sugar cleanse, you cannot consume any sugars. That means no sweets, no bread, no fruits, no alcohol, and no starchy vegetables. You can only eat protein, green vegetables, and healthy fats such as nuts. By day four, you can add an apple to your diet and a full-fat unsweetened dairy product.

“The best thing is that on day five, you can have a glass of red wine,” Dr. Deuber smiled. In fact, three glasses of wine are permitted in the first week once you’ve gotten past the first three or four days.

In week two, you can reintroduce berries and starchy vegetables. By week three, whole grains and quinoa can return to your diet, as well as grapes, citrus, and an ounce of dark chocolate. By week four, you can have two starches per day and up to five glasses of wine a week.

What Are the Benefits of the Sugar Cleanse?

There are numerous benefits to undergoing the sugar cleanse:

  • Weight loss (anywhere between 5 to 20 pounds)
  • Cleaner/healthier-looking skin
  • Rejuvenated appearance
  • Less craving for sugary foods

Foods Taste Right Again

“It’s supposed to recalibrate your taste,” Dr. Deuber noted. That’s perhaps the most important benefit of the sugar cleanse. It improves the taste of foods you take for granted and helps you consider what you’re putting into your body.

According to the CNN article, you’ll know that the sugar cleanse is working when an apple tastes like candy, and when you notice the natural sweetness of an onion. By the end of the program, you’ll be less tempted by ice cream and candy. Those become occasional treats.
