Touch-ups after Facial Plastic Surgery
Facelifts are the most popular facial cosmetic surgical procedure, year after year, particularly among people over the age of 35. The continued popularity of this procedure should not be surprising, given the fact that the Baby Boomer generation (those born between 1944 and 1964) is now reaching senior status, with the older edge of Generation X (those born between 1965 and 1983) not far behind.
Dr. Mark Deuber has seen this trend within his own practice, as more of his patients are looking to rejuvenate their appearance. Because facelifts cannot completely stop the effects of aging, there may come a time in which these patients may be looking at other ways to do touch-ups after their facelift to extend the life of the results from their procedure. Here are some of the options that some of Dr. Deuber’s facelift patients have selected in order to preserve the results from their facelift procedures for as long as possible.
Dermal fillers are designed to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the nose and lips, and to fill out hollowed areas like the cheeks and under the eyes. Dermal fillers replace the collagen (a protein that the body forms to fill itself out over the framework of the skeleton) that the body naturally loses due to aging. Dr. Deuber recommends dermal fillers as a way to “spot treat” small areas that may only just start to be showing signs of aging after a facelift procedure.
BOTOX® injections work similarly to dermal fillers in that both are injections that work to correct signs of aging on the face. However, BOTOX® works at a deeper level than dermal fillers, which only work just below the surface of the skin. BOTOX® addresses frown lines between the brows by relaxing the facial muscles in that area. If you have undergone a mini facial lift, which does not address the underlying facial muscles, or if you have only had a facelift to the lower portion of your face, you may find that BOTOX® injections can help address aging in areas of your face that were not lifted, such as around the eyes and on the forehead.
Now that you have seen the final results from your facelift and are pleased with how they have rejuvenated your appearance, this is an excellent time to invest in good quality skin care products. You will want to look at a moisturizer to keep your delicate facial skin from drying out, as well as a daily cleaner and toner to help keep your skin fresh and vibrant. If you spend a great deal of time outdoors, particularly during the summer, it may also be a good idea to invest in a good sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF) and a built-in moisturizer.
You have likely invested a great deal of time and effort into making certain that you get the best possible outcome from your facelift. Touch-up procedures and products can be a wise investment to help you enjoy those results as long as possible.
