Why More Baby Boomers Are Undergoing Plastic Surgery

Not too long ago we discussed prevjuventation skin care for millennials, which is a rising trend in preventative anti-aging treatments. Yet this upward trend in cosmetic treatments transcends generation gaps. Our Dallas, TX plastic surgery center is seeing more baby boomers going under the knife, seeking out cosmetic injections, and looking into aesthetic lasers.

Dr. Mark A. Deuber would like to discuss some reasons why baby boomers are undergoing plastic surgery procedures in higher numbers than before.

Statistics on Baby Boomers and Surgical Rejuvenation

According to new findings from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), there was a notable jump in the numbers of cosmetic procedures performed on people age 55 and older. From 2017 t0 2018, there was an increase of 50,000 aesthetic procedures for boomers.

The ASPS attributes this spike in cometic treatments to the divorce rates among boomers over the years, and the need to enhance their appearance when stepping back into the dating scene.

What This Could Mean for Cosmetic Treatment Trends

It will be interested to track this spike in cosmetic treatments from 2017 to 2018 and see if the trend continues into 2019. What we can say definitively about these numbers among boomers and among millennials is that cosmetic treatments are mainstream. People are less likely to experience a stigma about getting work done or undergoing a non-surgical procedure in an effort to look great.

Below are some of the surgeries that can help boomers look their best.

Facial Rejuvenation Surgery for Baby Boomers

There are so many surgeries out there to help smooth away facial lines and tighten sagging skin. There’s the brow lift for furrowed foreheads, the traditional facelift for the mid-face and upper cheek area, the lower face lift for the jowls and jawline, and the neck lift for the loose skin along the neckline.

Cosmetic Injectables for Baby Boomers

More and more people are opting to undergo BOTOX Cosmetic and dermal filler injections rather than surgery. These non-surgical procedures can be completed during a lunch break and help make facial wrinkles and creases disappear. Though the results last only several months, the limited risks are extremely attractive to boomers as well as millennials.

Breast Enhancement for Baby Boomers

Breast augmentation has remained the most popular plastic surgery procedure for several years in a row. Yet there are other breast enhancement options out there that boomers may find helpful. In particular, breast lift surgery is ideal for breasts that have sagged with age, giving them a firm and perky appearance.

Body Contouring for Baby Boomers

Getting rid of that last unwanted bit of fat can be challenging, especially as metabolism slows down in middle age. That may explain the increased popularity of liposuction among baby boomers. Targeted fat removal can help you look slimmer, trimmer, and more athletic no matter your age.
